The AMURTEL Aid Association and Decathlon cheer up summer vacation for the children in Pănătau

After such a difficult and unstable year that we all went through and that affected each of us, especially the children because they experienced online school and other challenges, here are some great news!

On Friday, July 9, at 11.00, the Fountain of Hope After School Center opens its doors to launch the summer program for children in the Pănătău village of Buzău county.

The event will be open to all children in the community. About 50 children, parents, as well as representatives of the local school and town hall are expected to participate.

It is an opportunity to celebrate the end of a challenging year and the 14th anniversary of the partnership between the AMURTEL Aid Association, led by Didi Ananda Devapriya, an American citizen living in Romania for 16 years, the Pănătău City Hall, led by Nicolae Stoica, and the teaching staff of the Pănătău Secondary School, under the guidance of principal Elena Stoica.

The center’s guests will enjoy the participation of representatives of a sports articles company, with which AMURTEL has started a collaboration. The company will assure sports supplies necessary for the center’s summer program and for the children to play with on its launch day.

Due to their help, the center will organize the traditional “Pănătău Cycling Contest” this year, which has reached its sixth edition.

During the summer, children will relax through fun holiday activities.

During the school year, at the After School Center, children receive guidance and help with all homework, as well as a healthy, vegetarian hot meal every day, which provides great support for families in sensitive financial situations.

During the pandemic restrictions, when the schools were closed, the center delivered donated food from the Bucharest Food Bank to the children’s homes. Later, when schools were suspended or on extended holidays, and social centers were able to function normally, the Fountain of Hope After School Center managed to provide support to children from disadvantaged backgrounds and “leave no one behind.”

At the beginning, the staff of the center was equipped only with personal phones, but, in a short time, the School and the City Hall were able to offer tablets, and through online crowdfunding campaigns, AMURTEL was able to buy several laptops.

Now, in the middle of summer, children will also enjoy their free time, practicing activities in the fresh mountain air with new equipment received from Decathlon.

The summer program also offers the possibility for volunteers from the community and other counties to get involved, in order to bring joy to the children by organizing artistic and sports activities. To get involved as a volunteer, contact the director of the center, Larisa Brătucu.

The summer program of the Fountain of Hope After School Center is a beneficial way for volunteers to spend their free time in a constructive way, to socialize and, most importantly, to create memories for a lifetime!
